Trisha Donnelly b. 1974
An untitled film Donnelly presented in a 1950s cinema at Documenta 13, Kassel, in 2012 . Here, a series of images rich in association yet impossible to pin down were projected in an endless loop. Silent and almost static, these transitory images (which Donnelly has likened to ‘transmissions’) shared a rippling, oscillatory motion that made tangible the passage of time while resisting any form of narrative or climax. Like the wave photographs, they seemed to stake out a space for the future, indicating that their significance would only be gleaned retrospectively.
